Our subscription is low and our facilities are the best around
We currently have around 70 members of all ages. Some are primarily interested in performing, but are happy to turn their hand to all manner of backstage, front of house or technical tasks for productions in which they are not cast. Others are experienced, or chiefly interested in these non-performing roles in the theatre.
New members are always welcome whatever your age or theatrical interests.
We want you and we’ll give you a chance
Unlike some groups, we try to cast newcomers as soon as possible and involve everyone in our productions. You won’t end up waiting forever to have a go, become a star or just make friends – it’s up to you.
Come along and get to know us
Our regular meeting nights are Mondays and Thursdays at The Riverside Arts Centre, although in production week, we meet every night and very occasionally we hold additional rehearsals at other times.
We meet for auditions, rehearsals, play readings, post-production meetings and the AGM; all of which start at 8pm.
Auditions and rehearsals usually finish around 10:15pm, although near production week, during technical or dress rehearsals we quite often go on later… but the bar is always open!
Our productions are a team effort
Productions usually run for four nights and in addition we include a Saturday matinee for pantomimes. We also stage more intimate three night productions in our new studio space.
The weekend prior to performance is our “set up” weekend when cast and production team come together to complete building, painting and dressing the set, rig the lights, or help erect the forestage, orchestra pit and raked seating. The Arts Centre has a huge selection of lighting available and excellent operating equipment in the gallery for both lighting and sound. There is never a shortage of tasks from fitting and ironing costumes to checking sound effects. These days usually include a pub lunch and plenty of coffee and biscuits to keep the energy up.
We are resident at the Arts Centre so are able to rehearse and perform on the same stage, which is wonderful. Unlike many groups, we construct sets on site and do not have to remove them after the final performance. Instead we clear up, dismantle seating and set and return props and costumes to storage areas at our leisure on Sunday.
