A traditional panto by Norman Robbins which takes diabolical liberties with the true story of Dick Whittington: a poor lad who comes to London to seek his fortune. He is befriended by a (large!) cat and falls in love with Alderman Fitzwarren’s Daughter, Alice. Dirty tricks by the evil King Rat force Dick to leave in disgrace but, with the help of Fairy Bowbells’ magic he manages to clear his name and sets off with Fitzwarren to foreign shores to find their fortune. Shipwrecked off the coast of Morocco they find the land plagued with rats but his faithful cat sees them off and the party return to London laden with jewels as their reward. Boy becomes Lord Mayor of London, weds girl and they all live happily ever after.
