TERRY PRATCHETT has long been solid gold in the publishing world. Over 85 million books sold, and in the 1990s he was the UK’s best-selling author. But he has now become very successful through stage and screen adaptations of his work. So we’re very excited to be tackling GUARDS! GUARDS! – one of his best-known works (adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs). This will be another joint production with Manor Players, and will be directed by Olwen Holme, who had the distinction of directing our first joint production.

Terry always thought outside the box; he famously said that “Most modern fantasy just rearranges the furniture in Tolkien’s attic”. This story maybe illustrates what he meant. It’s brimming with fantastical themes, terrifying and comic in equal measure. The security of the city of Ankh-Morpok is in the hands of its City Night Watch – an apparently incompetent and apathetic bunch of moaners. When they suddenly find themselves up against a massive fire-breathing monster they need to raise their game – and fast!
